I'm redoing the pixie wings at Material Squirrel. Actually, I'm making new ones as the old ones were well, quite old. I'd hoped to have more done before I released these, but that didn't happen. These are very small wings, best for smaller avs, tho there is no reason why bigger avs can't wear them too!

The Starlight Wing Hunt is open now at Winged Isle/Material Squirrel! I've set out 15 stars each with a color variation of the pictured Starlight Wings. Just look for the sculpted star shape pictured above. I've done some really easy ones and some harder stars, but I haven't made it 'tear your hair out' difficult. No stars are half-hidden in a wall or anything like that.

New Mesh Antlers! (or Queen of Procrastination finishes Holiday project RIGHT before holiday, weee)

Yay! I finished my first Mesh project - mesh antlers. The really great advantage of mesh is that the antlers can be seamless as one prim, no slight gaps where one sculpt meets another!

Each set of horns comes with 12 texture options scripted in, scripted size change and 3 animations. They are NOT rigged tho so you can modify them.

I've also done a Christmas Edition of both - the Christmas package includes the REGULAR version and also, some sculpted prims because I ran out of time to do something else.

Also, for a limited time I have transfer versions available in case you want to give a gift. You can still give a gift of the copy/modify versions too - my vendor program allows you to give a gift to a specific av, just touch the vendor - but I know some people like to give things in boxes personally. The transfer version will out for a limited time only because copy/mod makes my life much easier ;)

Oh, and if you haven't heard yet, you need a Mesh viewer to view these!! Phoenix has a mesh release now!

New Wings! + Change + Updates

New Flexi Demon Wings! 10 Colors for 299L!
Demo available on the Marketplace and in my store, of course!

A big change is (slowly) coming to Material Squirrel - I'm repackaging all of my flexi wings into color packs of 10 colors (same wing style) for the same price 299L. So you get 10 wings for 299L. Unfortunately (this is the catch), this is going to take me awhile to complete. Currently I've completed the fairy wing section! So if you love fairy wings, be sure to take a look at the new and redone wings in my fairy section.

More changes - I will be getting rid of the pose stands for the flexi wings and offering demos more like hair demos that you can take and try on later.

Customer Rewards! In addition to changing how my wings are packaged, I'm also changing over to a new vendor system. And that means - customer rewards! For every pair of wings you buy, you get credit at my store. If you wear your Material Squirrel group tag (have the Material Squirrel group activated), you get even more credit! I'll also have a redelivery terminal soon. Currently, the only wings that give you store credit are the wings in the New Wing section and the Fairy Wing section. This new vendor system will also make it much easier to buy gifts or give someone store credit as a gift. To pay the vendor, simply left click on it and pay the amount given. To buy with credit or as a gift, just touch the vendor.

And last, but certainly not least - MESH. I am working on learning mesh and I'm really excited about the possibilities. Mesh does have some limitations and won't replace my flexi or sculptie wings, at least not until we have significant improvements in the mesh technology, but I am quite excited about some of the new things we can do!

All of the 3 updos above have color change options on the accessory parts (ie non-hair parts). I really love this option so you can customize your own hair to match your outfit. All of the updos come with hair bases on the tattoo layer so they look better on your head. (The part where the prims meet the forehead has always bugged as looking strange, but this makes it look better, I think.)

The Hair Fair opens tomorrow (July 2nd). I also created some turbans for Bandana Day and I will be featuring those on this blog too.

Still working on Haunted Zuzu stuff - specifically hair which will debut at the Hair Fair in July. Then I will be back to wings, I'm planning on making some big changes to my store. And of course, MESH will be here soon. I have so much to learn about mesh, but it seems like a no brainer for wings (minus the lack of movement and different wing positions will have to be alphaed, not prim hidden due to the scripting restraints, at least as far as we know.)

Just a small update to let everyone know I'm working on some Haunted Zuzu items - which I will display on this blog since it is the one still on most feeds. I know I will be back to wings soon - but I need a small break from wings and I'm also waiting to see if mesh is on the way. The RFL wings are up in my store until RFL ends in June (one such pictured here). Grab them while you can - it's a great deal 10 wings for 299L - all proceeds to RFL.

Fairy Wings at Fantasy Faire

I created these wings for sale for the Fantasy Faire. Currently they are only at Fantasy Faire. I'm experimenting with adding more colors to my wings because I enjoy making a ton of colors but I don't enjoy making ads for all the wings and don't have room to put them all out. So I'm experimenting with packs of wings still the 299L (per pack!) price. I still have to decide what to do with my regular wings to make them comparable to new packs, feedback would be appreciated!

Material Squirrel has a booth at the Fantasy Faire which is now open to the public. These are my wings for Relay For Life. All proceeds go to Relay For Life to benefit research to cure cancer.

These are only available for the 2011 RFL season (it ends in mid-July). After the event, they will be in my store for purchase until July. I STILL get asked for last year's design so don't miss these!!

I did something special for the wings - they are in packs of 10, which different colors and designs. They are only 299L for a PACK. So you get 10 wings for 299L, 29L a wing! These wings are scripted the same as our regular flexi wings. There are demos to try out at the booth.

Nomine and Material Squirrel bring you limited edition Demon avs for Valentine's Day! Munch writes about it in much more detail on her blog (and you can see pictures of the 3 other avs). These come with everything - skin, eyes, shape, hair, horns, tails, and wings. The wings are sculpted and 2 of them are sculpted with flexi parts. If you aren't really in the market for a demon av, keep these in mind for the wings alone. These wings will NOT be resold or repackaged as normal wings. It's your chance to own a limited edition set of wings that few other people have. It's a great way to get almost a custom job and to have the satisfaction of knowing that if you go to a club event for wings, the chances of someone else wearing the same wings are very very small.

Hair Base Sculpts

Sometimes I make full perm sculpt kits* under my Grim Grum brand. I'm putting them on the Material Squirrel blog because I don't do these kits often enough to warrant their own blog.

I've created some hair bases for hair designers. I did a few of these for a friend and realized there was nothing like this on the marketplace. These hair bases fit the basic shape of the av skull, so you will have a covered base to work from. Yet they are not one full block so you can move things around as necessary. You will need to make adjustments for different head shapes and different ear shapes, but the basic base is there. (And also it needs more prims, like bangs or just more hair).

Each of the hair bases comes with:
- full perm sculpt maps (with alpha protection)
- 3 full perm sample hair textures (black, blonde and red)
- copy & modify hair base build example
- sculpty builder kit to help you build item

I've changed the profile reward pick wings to Lucky Board wings. I prefer profile rewards but since the Lindens changed the search parameters and picks is no longer used at all AND because it never worked without glitches. So . . . Lucky Boards - they are set to change letters every two minutes AND have wild cards so hopefully winning several pairs will be easy. I rarely have the patience for lucky chair/boards so I set it up with myself in mind ;)

The Giselle Wings (pictured in orange) are also available in 5 other colors. The Mecure Gallant wings from this post are also on the lucky board and I plan to put one or two others up in a few weeks.

Every week, my plan is to have a new set of wings at the special price of 79L. So look for new wings every Tuesday, unless real life gets in the way or SL has a really bad day. And yes, the first several (4?) of these will be recolors of this set of sculpted wings. If that offends you and you need to write nasty blog posts, well, ok then. But I think most of you will like the recolors :)

I may reintroduce these wings later, but NOT at this price. So these may or may not be limited editions, I haven't thought that far, but they won't be 79L again.

Oh, and I realize the wings on the demo stand aren't situated right. Ziggy will fix that when he gets home! If you have trouble seeing them, make your av way smaller. I know it's a pain, but he'll get it fixed soon!

The Alt Fair is raising money for a great charity - Nothing but Nets - which provides mosquito nets to people who cannot afford them in countries where malaria is a serious problem. Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria and we CAN do something to stop it. Malaria also affects adults and nearly killed a family member of mine.

And look, I finally finished some wings! These took me a while. The sculpted ones require the sculpting part and then the texturing part and then scripting fun. So it's a lot more work than the flexis.

But they are worth it!

These also come in silver, gold, espresso and snowflake, but I'm trying to not torture the feeds with too many pictures. See my Flickr for pics of the other colors.

Second Life content creation is my job. No, it does not pay terribly well. No, there are no health benefits. But I get to work at this part time and spend more time with my kid than I might be able to otherwise. AND I get to create things and make things, which I LOVE. I always have about 400 million more ideas than I have time to do. (Which doesn't even count the projects I've started and never finished.)

Content theft hurts content creators. Not only the lost sales revenue, but the time it takes to deal with the theft and file the DCMA and open tickets with LL and then sometimes they still have to do that ALL over again to get the stuff finally wiped.

There are TWO groups today who have boycotts in SL. One is the Step Up. They are asking for NO uploads. The other is Artist's Voice. They are asking for boycotts of all L transaction/Land store and to have shops close up their stores completely and to not shop.

I don't think that the boycott of stores/shopping/transactions is the answer. This penalizes the two groups who are hurt the most by content theft - legit shop owners who spend countless hours creating and the loyal customers who spend the Linden to support those countless hours of creation.

I know people want to do something. And I do appreciate people who aren't all content creators bringing new ideas and new forms of protest to the table. Content creators have been talking to Linden Labs about theft since 2006 (or maybe 2005). While we were able to get LL to act on some of the copybot issues, we still can't get them to go any further. So to see people form groups and say, hey let's do something, well, I really appreciate that. But I don't agree with the form the Artist's Voice protest took, so I am not participating this time. (Tho I am going to refrain from uploading files, that I can do, I hope. It is NOT going to be easy.)

Elysium had a wonderful idea that we should swamp LL's email servers with emails of protest. THAT is something that wouldn't hurt content creators and might even get LL's attention. Maybe. I hope to see both of these groups come up with new forms of protest.

I'm speaking on this so my loyal customers know my reasons for not closing my store.

People have been asking for tattered fairy wings. And asking.

And I swear, I've been trying! This is the 4th or 5th tattered fairy wing I've tried to do. But this time, ha! I actually succeeded.

And now all of you Fae can run around looking a bit tattered or worn, like you just took the UnSeelie court DOWN. Or if you happen to fly on the other side of the line, there are some darker colors in here for you too!

I did 10 colors of these and so I decided to make a fat pack, just in case you need all the colors.

Material Squirrel has a booth at the Fantasy Faire that opens on Monday. And I have LOTS of goodies for this show.

I've designed 4 new styles of wings. For each style, I've done a limited edition color that will benefit Relay for Life. These colors will be available ONLY during the Faire. After that, they will be gone forever.

Here are the Arch Demon in Tatters Wings - the Envy green. Special thanks to Customer X for suggesting this. AND I'm so sorry I can't find the notecard you gave me suggesting it. I'd like to thank you in person (well, via IM) but I can't find your name!

These are the Evadne Wings in Sand. The Evadne wings have a lovely watercolor effect. They are my new favorites.

Sculpted Phoenix, Blue Bird and Inspired Sparrow Wings

New wings - inspired by sparrow wings, these new sculpted wings are for the birds (and angels and other winged creatures). Note that I said inspired because I did not follow the anatomy of a sparrow wing all that closely.

I also did a Phoenix version because many people have requested Phoenix wings. And also a Blue Bird version. Make a little bird house in your soul!

And also - um, so these are only 299L. Why? Because the fold position is not a true fold (like the other two types of sculpted wings) so we had to do way less work with the scripts, sculpt maps, and texutures. I think the fold position still looks nice, but because it was less work, therefore it cost less.

Profile Rewards - New Wings

Everyday, the profile rewards will now cycle through a new wing (well, 9 of them).

For the first few days, we have the Krayl Wings:

Then on Sunday, we'll move to the Sylph wings:

Here's how it works:

You put the Material Squirrel location in your picks in your profile (or just smile and skip this step if you've already done it).
You wait about 48 hours, unless you were smart enough to put the pick into your profile earlier.
Then you go here (in world location).
Click the sign, get your new free wings.

If you don't get your wings AND you've had the pick in your profile for more than 48 hours, please do not curse me with a cloud of man-eating chibi monkeys. Simply IM Kala Bijoux with the name of the wing for that day and say you couldn't get it and I will get it to you. I'm not trying to cheat anyone. The Lindens have recently monkeyed with the code/database for this so that's why it hasn't been working.

A long long time ago, the SL universe was young and Ziggy and I made you all cry.

Well, ok, we made a scripted attachment that emits particle tears. And then aside from one small update, we didn't do anything else to it. But recently, I've dusted off this ancient product and updated it.
- 2 textures for enhanced realism (new texture too, not the old one!)
- Easy touch Menu (touch nose) or chat command /99 menu
- separate eye controls - Left/Right
- Change Speed & Amount
- change color (set of preset colors)
- mod/copy

Sculpted Demon Army Wings - Update

We now have an updated version of the Sculpted Demon Army Wings. This version includes permanent fold and a new HUD. Fixed a few texture problems from the fold to open position. Probably some other things but I can't remember. *edit* Scripter says the wings are running Mono now.

If you own these wings, the update is free. You should get an inworld notice, but given SL borkage today, who knows. Go to the store, the upgrade sign is right by the landing point.

A month ago, I was browsing the fashion planet feed and I saw an amazing build for Evie's Closet by Ando Joubert. And it just so happens, I was looking for a builder. My usual one was not available. I'd talked to several builders, but most showed me modern builds and I really wanted something unusual. Modern buildings are lovely, but a wing store needs a different feel.

I'm still working on the garden portion, I feel it needs something more than these lovely trees and tons of flowers, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I'm so pleased with how this build came out. Ando did an excellent job, really capturing a feel and working with me.

The new build opening also has new wings. Which I will be blogging about soonish.

I also have new free wings in the works to the Material Squirrel group and my subscribe-o-matic group. I'd hoped these to be a nice virtual stocking stuffer, but RL stuff (snow!) did not allow me to get as much work done as I'd hoped.

Tim Burton meets Tentacle Porn

Hello my darling space monkey love puppies,

I have FINALLY finished this outfit, it only took 3 months. My inspiration was a cross between Tim Burton movies and tentacle porn.

The skirt is made out of sculpted tentacles. I included my usual 3 fit options, but since this is a prim work, you may need to edit for individual fit AND tweak your AO. I am still trying to perfect building with prims, so well, perfection may not quite be achieved here.

I also want to thank everyone who has blogged about the Black Fire outfit. I try to add comments of thanks whenever someone blogs one of my outfits - but this week in RL, my sister got married and as part of the wedding party, I was quite involved. And now I have a nasty cold too. Blech! So thank you and my apologies that I didn't leave comments.

My pixie spider minions would like to tell you that this dress is premiering today at noon (SL time) in the Passions of the Black Swan Fashion show. (for direct link - SL URL).

Today through Sept. 30th, the dress will only be available on the Black Swan sim. Half of the proceeds on this dress go to the Black Swan sim upkeep, etc. My darlings, I truly believe in supporting the arts as I was tortured by my fellow dodgeball players in PE as a child. The dark dreary child in the corner is soooo much fun, apparently. And thus, I support the arts because where else do misfit kids turn to but drawing severed unicorn heads?

The spiders worked hard on this dress, so please do go out and support them as well. Or I will give them 10 lashing each and they will cry black diamond tears.

I'm in love with these pigtails. I saw the Curious Kitties ad on the Fashion Planet feed and I had to have them. And I love them. My only complaint would be that when I scroll out, the sculptie does the LOD thing and I have bald patches in my hair, but I fixed this by making a black hair base. The LOD thing is not the designer's fault, it is just a sculptie thing.

And I rarely share outfits on this blog, I just don't have the time now. Material Squirrel has been displaced by another wing vendor for the number one slot when you search (top right corner) for wings. I'm a bit sad, but that's how the cookie crumbles. I will NOT be adding a pay to add this location to your picks type dealio at this time. I'll never say never, since who knows what market forces may occur. But in general, I believe that if you make a quality product and market it within the normal guidelines, you should not have to resort to gaming the system.

I am old enough in SL years to remember when people first started using camping. A lot of people were up in arms about it. It made searching so difficult because sometimes I'd teleport to the top spot in the search and I'd find 5 items on the wall and 20 campers. I remember one store that I went to and it was similar - now they are a very established brand but I still won't shop there.

Perhaps this is sour grapes. Maybe. There are plenty of people who will argue that any marketing measure you can use, whether some might feel it is gaming the system, or not, is fair. Perhaps. I still feel tho that if you make a quality product and get the word out, you won't need to pay people to advertise for you.

My subscribe-o-matic Haunted Zuzu group members received this tank top as a freebie gift yesterday evening. You might still be able to catch it if SL isn't acting up. Go to the Haunted Zuzu location and touch the subscribe-o-matic object and go to the history tab.

However, when I tried it, it did not give me an object.

Finally, and I do mean FINALLY finished this dress. It only took like a year. I had the idea over a year ago, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. In about November (2007), I finally figured out what I wanted to do. I guess sitting on a rocking chair endlessly breastfeeding gives one LOTS of time to ponder. I did work on it a bit then, but I couldn't figure out how to make the seams work. Matching the wispy seams on the side was just impossible. And yes, I tried because I am crazy like that. Finally figured out another option.

And you will notice that the seller is HauntedZuzu Sorbet. Yes, Hello Alt! The inventory in my Kala account is just getting soooo crowded. It is really refreshing to have 1,000 something in inventory again. Well, in my alt. Anyway, it's not a secret hiding alt, just another way to work.

I feel rather dorky releasing just ONE outfit when I haven't done clothes for a while, but in the limited time I have, I get done what I get done, or I'll be releasing a bunch of stuff . . . next year . . . or if I ever find a babysitter for a few hours a day.

Please follow these instructions to upgrade your existing Material Squirrel Monster Truck wings upgraded to Version 4.2.1

INSTRUCTIONS
------
1 - Please RETURN the old wings to Kala Bijoux in a folder with your name in the folder title OR in a notecard IN the the folder with your name in it .

2 - In the Folder name (or notecard), please indicate the Number of wings in the folder (example: Kala's Wings - 10 Wings).

3 - Please indicate in a notecard IN the folder which extra set of wings you would like. You can choose from ANY of our wings. Please be sure to include the full name of the wings you'd like.

4 - If you have more than 10 wings, please break them into separate folders - 10 wings each.

5 - You do NOT have to change the wing names back to their original names.

Version 4.2.1 is NO TRANSFER so please be sure you give me the wings from the avatar you want to receive them!

***Upgrade bonus - I have lowered the price on the MTV wings. To make up for that, upgrades on the MTV wings will get a bonus wing of their choice (if they follow the direction correctly!). If you don't specify a wing you'd like, I will just give you one of my choosing.

If you give me a discontinued wing, I will give you back the original wing.

Monster Truck Wings are Back!

The Monster Truck Wings (our HUGE size of wings) are now back in the store with the new upgraded 4.2.1 features. I also managed to get a few new styles out for these wings.

Please note that these wings are as large as prims can go (without mega prims) so the size change works in the smaller direction. These wings differ from the normal 4.2.1 wings as they go a bit larger and the textures are made to specifically work with larger prims. Due to the size, however, the fit is NOT perfect so please use the demo stand before buying. If you are looking for a pefect fit, these are probably not the wings for you.

Upgrades - Give me a few days and I will have the info for people who wish to upgrade their old Monster Truck Wings! I plan to do something a little special for the upgrades due to the price change of the MTV wings.

2008 Relay for Life Angel Wings

Finally finished - my contribution to the 2008 SL Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Aside from helping out a great cause, this is a Relay for Life exclusive - meaning once the final bash is over with in July, these will not be available. So . . . you can get some limited edition wings that will be pretty unique. In past years, I've had people ask for the angel wings well after the fundraiser was over, so . . . get them now, I guess.

Turn on glow on these wings for a different look.

Relay for Life Angel Wings - Sneak Peek

Here's a sneak peek at the angel wings I created to benefit Relay for Life 2008. This is my 3rd year making a pair of angel wings! The photo doesn't show the detail in the wings - but you can get this effect by turning on glow.

They aren't quite available yet, Ziggy needs to do a bit of scripting since these are a different size and with the normal scripts, droop looks spastic, but soon, soon. I even completed the adbox shots.
